IG’s Prefabricated Brick Slip Solutions Deliver 90% Labor Savings at Brookgreen Gardens

IG Masonry Support has released a brand-new case study detailing its contribution to the Purdy Center – a 20,000-square-foot expansion of the Welcome Center at Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

Home to the nation’s largest collection of American figurative sculpture, Brookgreen Gardens is a landmark of American cultural life. The Purdy Center, designed by Craig Gaulden Davis Architecture, presented a series of technically demanding brickwork challenges, including a 36-foot main entrance arch, and a brick arch portico featuring complex 90-degree corners – all requiring a level of precision that would have been extremely difficult to achieve through traditional laid brickwork alone.

Working alongside structural engineers ADC Engineering and general contractor Dargan Construction Company, IG Masonry Support delivered prefabricated Brick Slip Arches, B.O.S.S. ® (Brick on Soffit Systems), and stainless steel Welded Masonry Support systems to realize the architect’s vision. The prefabricated approach delivered construction speeds approximately 90% faster than conventional methods – saving significant time and labor costs without compromising on quality or detail.

Joe Jumper, Project Manager of Dargan Construction Company, said: “The IG Masonry Support products were new to us, but the IG team made the entire process seamless. From coordinating the lintel, steel, and curtain wall systems to shop drawings, fabrication, and delivery, IG was outstanding to work with. Even shipping our locally selected brick to their fabrication facility was simple and efficient. We appreciated the professionalism, expertise, and excellent communication throughout the project.”
